What is the minimum amount of fabric I can order?
We sell all of our fabric and notions in 0.5 metre increments. Should you wish to purchase 2 metres you will need to amend the quantity in the quantity box to 4.
The smallest length available to purchase is 0.5 metres.
I have received a faulty product?
If the product(s) purchased are damaged or faulty upon receipt, inform us within 14 days.
Email firstname.lastname@example.org with the order number and fault description to receive a refund or exchange. Refunds will be issued via the original payment method.
I would like a refund or exchange?

If you are unsatisfied with the purchase of a product, you may return the product to us for a refund or exchange within 14 days of receipt. Refunds and exchanges will only be honoured if the following is adhered to:
a) The product must be returned in perfect condition, unopened and in the original packaging with the order number.
b) All refunds and exchanges must be made in writing to email@example.com, quoting the order number and explanation of return.
c) All or part of the digitally accessed product and/or pattern has not been accessed or downloaded and/or you have not started to use the digitally accessed product and/or pattern.
Once you have downloaded or started to download a digital pattern we are unable to offer a refund or exchange. The process of downloading a digital order is started by clicking on the download link, whether or not you open the downloaded files. We reserve the right to refuse any refunds or exchanges on products where the download link has been accessed.
A refund for the products only will be issued on their arrival at Made to Sew, we are unable to refund postage. Unless the products are faulty you will be responsible for the cost of returning the products to us.
If instructions are not followed we reserve the right to withhold the refund process, this does not affect your statutory rights. Refunds will be issued via the original payment method. If Gift Vouchers were used to pay for the product we will refund you in Gift Vouchers.
Products that have been used, altered or removed from the original packaging will not be accepted for return or exchange unless products are faulty, damaged or they have been sent to you in error. Refunds for cut lengths of fabric, interfacing and/or haberdashery are non-refundable unless the cut length of fabric, interfacing and/or haberdashery is faulty or damaged.
Once in your possession, products are your responsibility. Handle with care and ensure that you return them using a method that insures the value of the products and provides proof of postage. We are not liable for any returned goods that are not received.

I haven’t received my order?
If you are awaiting the delivery of physical products please read our Shipping & Delivery page to see the expected delivery times for your order. Your order will have been despatched on the day you received your Order Confirmation email. Please check your details including the delivery address on your order. We will have used the delivery address provided with the order, for shipping. If you are still having problems please get in touch.
Digital orders including online classes/courses, products, patterns and other digitally accessed products and services will be sent to the email address provided with the order automatically, a few minutes after the payment has been made.
Please check the spam or junk folder for the email account if you have not received the email. Should you require any further assistant please Contact Us with your name, order number and email address.
Do you sell gift vouchers?
Gift vouchers, both printed and digital are available to purchase here: Digital | Printed. Should you require a different value please email email@example.com or call +44(0) 1460 984614.
Gift vouchers can be used to purchase any goods on the website. Use the code on the gift voucher as the coupon code at checkout.
Will I be charged any additional transaction fees?
You will only be charged the price of the product or service you are purchasing through the website. However there is a small chance that your bank may charge you additional currency conversion fees or a foreign payment fee, depending on their policies. We recommend checking with your bank if you are unsure.
What payment methods do you take?
The website uses Stripe to take secure online payments. Stripe accepts all major debit and credit cards including Visa, MasterCard and American Express.
No payment details are stored on our website.
What countries do you ship to?
We offer delivery worldwide. Please see our Shipping & Delivery page for details of price and delivery time. If applicable import duties and taxes are the sole responsibility of the customer.

Can I book an online class and share it with friends?
Purchasing a place on an online class/course entitles you to individual access to the course. This individual access is not to be shared with another party/individual. The content is copyright and must not to be copied, shared or distributed, whether for profit, or not.
Please can you make an online or in person class on…?

Do you have parking?
The parking situation varies at our class locations. Students will be informed in advance of the situation.
Somerset: Free parking is available at Jordans Courtyard.
Oxfordshire: There is limited free parking at Warwick Hall. However all parking in Burford is free. Burford car park (OX18 4SE) offers free parking and is a 5 minute walk away.
London: There is no free parking and limited parking available. We recommend using public transport to attend the class.
Do I need to bring lunch?
We usually have a selection of tea, coffee and biscuits/cakes available during classes. However we ask that you provide your own lunch, the lunch break is approximately 30 minutes long.
Somerset: You are welcome to bring your own lunch or purchase this on the day at the onsite café, Kitchen. The Kitchen Cafe is open everyday from, 8:30-15:00.
Oxfordshire: You are welcome to bring your own lunch or purchase this on the day at the onsite café, Warwick Hall. Alternatively there are a number of cafés and shops in Burford village.
London: You are welcome to bring your own lunch or purchase this on the day. There are a number of local cafés and shops.
For classes at locations in the USA and Australia, lunch options may vary. Students will be informed in advance of the situation.
Do I need to bring my own sewing machine?
Most students choose to bring their own sewing machine to our in person classes. This enables you to work on a sewing machine that you feel comfortable with, or get to grips with your new machine.
However, we do have sewing machines and overlockers (sergers) available to hire for the duration of a course. We ask that you book the hire of sewing machines or overlockers in advance, when booking your class through the website.
The cost of the sewing machine hire will depend on the class location, as this is offered through the venue. Drop us an email firstname.lastname@example.org and we can confirm the hire availability and costs.
(Machines will be supplied with bobbins, standard needles and the feet required. Students need to bring their own thread and if required specialist needles).

What do I need to bring?

Is there a minimum age for attending a class?
The minimum age for students attending in person classes is 16 years. Students under 18 will be required to provide written consent from a parent or guardian prior to the class. Students of a younger age may attend private in person classes with a parent or guardian present.
I can sew, but I want to learn dressmaking?
If you want to take your sewing to the next level and learn dressmaking we recommend starting with our Beginners Dressmaking course. This class teaches you the basics of dressmaking, covering tips for cutting out fabric, creating the right sized garment for your individual figure and covers professional construction techniques for a skirt pattern. I want to learn to sew, where do I start?
If you are a complete beginner, then we recommend following Learn to Sew 1. This class teaches you how to use a sewing machine and helps to build your understanding and confidence working on fun projects. If you have any questions, please Contact Us.
What if Made to Sew has to cancel a class?
If in exceptional circumstances we have to cancel an online and/or in person class/course we will provide you with as much notice as possible and offer alternative dates (if applicable) or a full refund. Please read our Terms & Conditions for further details.
We will not be held liable for any other costs or expenses that you may incur in the event of cancellation by us and recommend that you take our insurance for the fees of our products and services and any travel arrangements (if applicable).
What is your cancellation policy?
We have a strict class cancellation policy; further details are available in our Terms & Conditions.
Should you wish to cancel an online or in person class/course, the following cancellation policy applies. Please see our Refund and Exchange policy for other products and services.
If you wish to cancel an online or in person class/course, we will offer a full refund or exchange if:
a) You cancel within 7 working days, beginning the day after you received the order confirmation email, entering you into a legally binding agreement (contract) with us.
b) Notice of cancellation is received at least 7 working days prior to the start of an online or in person class/course.
c) All or part of the online class/course has not been accessed or downloaded and/or you have not started to use that online class/course, or any course materials.
d) Cancellations must be made in writing to email@example.com, quoting the order number.

b) Private Tuition: Amendments to bookings must take place 10 working days prior to the start of the class/course.
c) All or part of the online class/course has not been accessed or downloaded and/or you have not started to use that online class/course, or any course materials.
d) Amendments must be made in writing to firstname.lastname@example.org, quoting the order number.
e) All amendments will be charged an admin fee.
f) Amendments to online and in person classes/courses include but are not limited to; change of date/s and/or variation of the class/course you wish to attend.
There is no other right to cancel your purchase of an online and/or in person class/course. Therefore, we recommend you take out insurance to cover the cost of fees should your circumstances change.
If you are unable to attend a class/course you may send someone in your place. You will need to provide us with their details (name, address, email address and telephone number) in advance, so that arrangements can be made, and confirmation details can be passed on.
Full payment for online and in person classes/courses is required at time of booking to secure your place. Fees can be paid through the website, via the telephone or in person. As long as there are places left, online and/or in person classes/courses can be booked up to 24 hours in advance of the start date.
Please attend on time to all online and/or in person classes/courses (group and private tuition). A certain amount of time is allocated to each session and therefore we must start at the time advertised. If you are more that 15-20 minutes late it may not be possible for you to participate in the class/course. Lateness cannot be added onto session time for private tuition.
How many people are in a group class?
The maximum number of students we have in our in person group classes is between 6 and 8. We like to keep the numbers in the classes small so that students receive a large amount of individual tuition.
Do you have a waiting list?
We always hold a waiting list for classes that are full, in case of a last minute cancellation. Please Contact Us so we can add your details to the waiting list. We will be in touch if there is a cancellation and will be happy to let you have first priority on any future dates.
How do I book a place on a class?

Can I sell garments that I have made from your sewing patterns?
Unfortunately our patterns are only licensed for individual, domestic use and therefore you are only allowed to make garments for yourself or others as gifts. You are not allowed to sell garments made from our patterns. Please read our Terms & Conditions.
What should I do if I find an error on a pattern?
If you find an error on a pattern we would love to hear about it. Although we spend time checking and testing our patterns, mistakes can happen. If you spot an error we would love to know what it is, so that we are able to put it right.

I’m new to sewing. What pattern should I make first?
If you are new to dressmaking we would recommend joining our Beginners Dressmaking class or making one of the patterns used in the Beginners Dressmaking class; Hallie, Carta, Mercer or Ava.
Alternatively you could try working with our free Copen pattern, a classic shift dress or top. This pattern has a free ‘how to’ tutorial on YouTube.

Are your measurements metric or imperial?
We use metric and imperial measurements in ALL of our patterns as well as ALL of our online and in person classes/courses. All of our free YouTube tutorials use metric and imperial measurements, allowing you to follow along with either format.
I am larger than the biggest pattern size?
To create accurate well-fitting patterns we are unable to continue to increase the size with grading. If your measurements are larger than our biggest pattern size, please stay in touch as we plan to launch a collection of patterns for larger sizes very soon.
How do I know what size I am?
You will need to measure yourself accurately and compare your measurements to our size chart to pick the correct size. It is also useful to view the finished garment measurements of a pattern, these are included in the instruction booklet for the individual pattern.

What sizes do the pattern come in?
Our patterns are currently available in 9 sizes. We have labelled our sizes 0 to 8 and ask users to measure their bust, waist and hip and compare these to our size chart. We have numbered our patterns 0 to 8 to avoid confusion with ready to wear sizing, which can vary between brands. Our sizing is similar to a UK 4 to 22 and a US 0 to 18. All patterns come with a detailed instruction booklet featuring size charts and finished garment measurements.
How do I download my pattern?
On purchasing a digital product you will receive an email within a few minutes of completing the payment. The email will contain a link to download the product and/or pattern. Please check your junk and/or spam folders if you do not receive the email.
Alternatively you can follow these instructions to download your pattern. You will need to log into your account, click Account at the top right of the website. You will need the email address and/or username and password you registered with, to log into your account. Once you are logged in, you should select ‘Downloads’ on the left hand side.
